IRELAND’S Minister for Energy, Pat Rabbitte, announced yesterday that an additional €30 million in funding is being made available for commercial and domestic energy efficiency programmes.
Rabbitte also claimed this initiative will create new jobs and see energy bills fall significantly, along with the environmental benefits the move is also seen as a way of boosting Ireland’s battered economy.
Rabbitte was speaking at the launch of a Better Energy programme, which aims to make energy efficiency retrofitting less complex and more affordable, according to the Irish Times.
Rabbitte added that the programme would streamline three existing grant schemes, support jobs, help the country achieve its greenhouse gas emission reduction targets and make it easier to manage utility bills.

ENITEK ADD INFRARED HEATING TO THEIR PRODUCT RANGE
Enitek and Redwell Austria have formed a new partnership.
Unlike conventional heaters which just heat the air, Infrared heats the walls, the fabric of the room and the human body directly which are capable of buffering this energy and storing it much longer than the air and then releases it slowly back into the room.
The infrared waves first heat the upper-most layer of masonry. Most of this energy is reflected back into the room. This results in big energy savings. Once the room has reached the desired temperature, the heater will turn off until it is needed to replenish the store. With no carbon combustion, infrared heaters are environmentally friendly. Infrared heaters are easy to install, need minimal maintenance and are available in a wide variety of sizes, styles and designs.

MINISTER FOR Energy Eamon Ryan has told the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi that more than 800,000 homes here are being powered by a record 1,250 megawatts of electricity from wind turbines.
Five years ago, he said, Eirgrid “would have said we could not technically reach 35 per cent penetration [for renewables]” on the national grid. “When you get to a really high level of renewable penetration it can be technically challenging but manageable.
“In just over three years we have doubled the amount of renewable energy in Ireland, while at the same time reducing electricity prices. We have insulated over 110,000 homes and will soon be launching a plan to reach one million Irish homes over the next decade.”
Speaking on “the principal energy challenges facing national governments”, Mr Ryan said five international companies had signed agreements with the Government to provide electric vehicles in Ireland, with the ESB building the charging infrastructure.
“Irish companies are developing real expertise in the green technology area and the rest of the world wants to hear our story,” he told participants in the annual summit.

However, the companies want to see up to 25,000 extra pre-payment meters supplied to gas and electricity customers each year. The move would tackle “debt hopping” by customers, according to the ESB, Bord Gáis and other suppliers.
